Grain — Straight to slightly interlocked, fine-to-medium texture, natural luster. Dense — harder than white oak.
Color — Cut fresh it is a dull brown; exposed to light and air it turns violet within days, and deepens for years.
Working — Mills clean with sharp carbide. The compartment is cut into the same board, not bolted on — the seam disappears into the grain.
“The wood darkens the longer you hold it. So does the conviction.”
Made to order, one board at a time. Each shelf carries the block height at the moment its board cleared the saw, engraved where only you will look.
A word on wood: this is a natural material, photographed as the piece you will receive — not a sample. Grain and figure are the tree’s signature, not ours; dimensions may vary ±1/16″, and the color will deepen with time and light. That is not a defect. That is the point.
Pairs with the Demerara Floating Shelf and the Kaieteur Coffee Table. · ← Back to the Workshop
